Noordwijk Beach

Maybe it is the memories

the change of pace that brings us there

the sense of vacation

maybe the smell of the place

the sights of the gulls, the dunes, the grasses

but oh it is the feel of it, 

the crunch and slide of it

the feeling of beach sand

so different from dirt, soil, loam

no, not earthy, moist, rich, 

but oh so granular and gritty

even when wet,

moveable paper spreading under toes

sliding beneath the soles

smoothing my skin

clearing my mind

unburdening me of the rest

drawing me to the tactile, the feel

of beach sand

Hannah / Portrait

This is Hannah. We went to school together in Indonesia. She came to Holland this summer for my

sister's fantastical wedding and since then we've been obsessing over photo-shoots. So far, we've only

accomplished one. We went to the forest with our little blue dresses, props, and camera. We took turns

taking photos of each other as ideas popped into our heads one by one. Her version of the photo-shoot

Amsterdam / FOAM

Spent the day in Amsterdam with Aron, Elaina, and Lukas. We walked around the shopping center, 

went to the square, showed Elaina and Lukas the red light district for the first time, and finally visited

FOAM, a photography museum. I fell in love with just about every photo that was on display. 

Edward Steichen, a fashion photographer who shot for Vogue and Vanity Fair in the '20s was

the highlight of my trip to that museum. Every photo was put together so well, complimenting

the models and the products the image was meant to sell. After spending two good hours in the 

museum, the three of us went for some Chinese food, not quite like Asia, but the thought was nice. 

Next we got on a tram and got out at the Vondelpark where we sat on the sturdy branches of a 

willow tree. I felt very much like Pocahontas balancing my way through the branches hoping

not to fall in the water with my camera! It was a lovely day to spend with my brother and new

sister in law, Elaina.
